Team USANA Day 10: Big Night for US Speedskating
What a night for American speed skaters.
US Speedskating's Apolo Anton Ohno captured bronze in the 1,000 meters on Saturday, surpassing speed skating legend Bonnie Blair for the most all-time medals by an American winter athlete.
"It feels amazing, especially in a sport as volatile as short track speedskating," Ohno told NBC following the race in which he made winter sports history. "No regrets. I'm happy with the race and I left it all on the ice."
Ohno's historic showing came hours after US Speedskating teammate Shani Davis skated to silver in the 1,500 meters. It's Davis' second medal of the Games.
Speed Skating Canada's Charles Hamelin and Francois Hamelin also advanced to the finals with Ohno in the 1,000m, but both missed the podium.
Be sure to check out Alan Bergstrom's latest blog post about how positioning presents possibilities — in short track speedskating and in life.
